Do
you have the potential to become a Trustee?
Periodically we need to
recruit new Trustees. We do this because we need to maintain the number of Board Trustees at an optimum of 8.
Trustees usually serve up to 3 years, some stay with us for an additional 3 years.
Age
Concern Exmouth has a need for vibrant, innovative, skilled and experienced people to make up its Trustee board membership.
Skilled and experienced people come in all shapes and sizes. Whilst we could be looking for someone in a specialist
field, an Accountant, a Solicitor, a GP or someone in Health Care services, we also seek to people with “experience”
skills, such as understanding older peoples needs – this, for example, could be seen as a lay person’s skill;
a skill whilst not carrying a professional qualification is never the less needed to ensure Age Concern Exmouth has a balanced
Trustee Board that fits the purpose of its objects and constitution.
Trustees are responsible
for governance of the organisation, there is no input required on an operational or day to day basis – a Chief Executive
Officer is responsible for that.
Trustees have responsibilities and accountability to the Charities Commission in ensuring their charity meets all
the governance requirements. They take part in decision making and have the power to vote at Board meetings.
We understand some people are unable to meet the commitment or do not want the full responsibilities that go with
Trusteeship. In these instances it may be possible (subject to a need at a particular moment in time) to accept a specialist
skill on a ‘co-opted’ basis. This means we would be looking to have specific help with specific tasks but the
person co-opted would not be expected to attend all Board meetings and in any event would not have any powers to vote. An
example may be an Accountant or a Solicitor or a GP or someone in Health Care services.
The
Board of Trustees at Age Concern Exmouth meets bi-monthly on the second Monday of the month. We meet at 4.30pm with the meeting
lasting approximately one and half hours.
Our recruitment process for potential Trustees
consists of completing an application form (which give us a chance to know a little more about you). The form is designed
so you can tell us about the skills and experiences you have. If at the time of your application we have a vacancy within
our Board and you have the skills and experience we are looking for you will be invited to meet our Chief Executive Officer
and Chairman of Trustees so we can find out more about each other.
